Re the soldier returning home from Iraq unable to get his railcard.
I remember that during World War 2 all service personnel in uniform had free travel on public transport. Where is compassion these days?

I daresay servicemen in WWII didn't verbally abuse railway staff.

Maybe because our servicemen are better paid, Also there is no war now. Before you say it.. I am an ex Serviceman, All I got in 1963 was subsidised travel. Free twice a year with an Army pass to travel to my home on leave. Today our Servicemen and women still get subsidized travel warrants. Free when going on leave more than twice a year.
