IT'S nice to see First Mainline investing in new double decker buses but as new as they are they still won't run on time.
The 47/48 route is a joke: on Saturday mornings my wife and I go for a bit of breakfast to Pollards. We go to catch the 47 which reaches the stop on Leighton Rd near the Wyvern public house at around 8am but for the four out of five Saturdays this bus has been missing as is the following bus 15 minutes later.

Last Saturday was exactly the same - no bus from 7.45am until 8.35am.

It’s not just the morning buses that are missing. On Tuesday, August 26, we waited for over 45 minutes in Cumberland Street for either a 47 or 48 and, as always, they came together.

A young woman who works in the market told me that she had waited from 3.40 to 5.40pm for a 47. Why should we have to wait so long for a bus that is supposed to run every 12 minutes?

I have been on the 47 when a call has come from control to the driver instructing him to go to the Herdings terminus and to put Not in Service on his destination board and go to another route. Result: another bus missing.

And for this abysmal service we have to pay nearly £2 to go less than three miles. At least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask!

First can brag about their buses when - and only when - they run reasonably close to their timetable. Make the management use their own buses for a couple of months to just see what we as passengers have to put up with.

And by the way I am not a customer of First, a customer has a choice to go elsewhere. I have no choice but to use their service.

n I must add that the idiots that ride these new buses just don't care about the cost of them. You can go upstairs and all the yobs, including women, cannot sit normally in the front seats. They have to put their dirty feet all over the seats, windows and ledges. They have no respect for anything.
